We are really excited about bringing you this new collaboration. If you want to connect with us, then we would love to hear from you.
Why?
Many years ago when in my early twenties, (a long time ago!) I knew I wanted to help young adults with their mental health. I wasn't sure what that would look like back then, but I had a vision for some kind of residential therapeutic home. However, back in those days, I was very anti therapy, and it wasn't until a close friend of mine died, that I entered into some psychotherapy for myself and discovered the benefits of good therapy. This led to me training as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist.
What struck me however was the massive divide, as I experienced it, between the therapy world and faith. My faith had always been important to me but it felt equally uncomfortable to talk about faith in therapy, as it did to talk about therapy within my church community. This felt like such a conflicting situation, and I became passionate about bridging the gap that exists between the two.
My vision for bridging the gap between faith, the church and therapy, continues to this day, along with the need to de-stigmatise mental health so people need not fear asking for help and can be appropriately signposted.
It was while having these conversations with Rev Ash Meaney in California that we discovered a shared experience and passion for bridging the gap between faith and therapy. Out of these conversations came a partnership with him and Eremos Place, and the launch of God in Mind.
Ash and I now work collaboratively together from opposite sides of the pond, and this feels significant and symbolic of our passion for building a bridge that integrates the gap between faith and therapy.
Please note: We do not exclude anybody based upon faith, nor do we force our beliefs upon anyone else. I am a psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner and provide therapy, within my set of competencies, to help people seeking therapy regardless of faith.
